Additional responsibilities include recruiting and mentoring graduate students, advising undergraduate students, and contributing to cooperative research efforts by faculty and other stakeholders in the region. Teaching duties may include undergraduate and graduate courses in forest health and related courses in support of the program. The position will also serve as Director of the Arkansas Forest Health Research Center, a research facility for diverse forest disturbance research and education, that is being constructed on the UAM campus. The tenure-track, 12-month position will carry the rank of assistant or associate professor with an approximate appointment of 70% research and 30% teaching. Qualifications: Applicants should have a Ph.D. in forest ecology, disturbance ecology, forest health, pathology, entomology, or closely related field. Research interests may be focused in any of the following areas: forest disturbance, climate change, forest-environmental interactions, forest insects and diseases, forest fire, invasive/exotic species, and the influence of forest management on stand/ecosystem health. All candidates should value high-quality teaching, demonstrate an ability or desire to secure research funding, demonstrate collegiality within the workplace, and have an active record of publication. The ability to work collaboratively with other faculty members and representatives of governmental and non-governmental organizations is required. The successful candidate will develop a nationally recognized research program and educate the next generation of forest and land managers in the southeastern United States. There are abundant opportunities to build a research and teaching program through the diverse forest ecosystems of Arkansas and ongoing collaborations with College/Center faculty and their extramural partners. Research focus areas within the College/Center include bottomland hardwood ecosystem restoration, upland hardwood forest management, loblolly pine plantation management, and shortleaf pine ecosystem restoration. In addition, the USDA Forest Service has a forest ecology science center located in the College and an experimental forest near Monticello. The College of Forestry, Agriculture & Natural Resources has undergraduate programs in Natural Resources Management (with options in forestry, wildlife management & conservation, geospatial science, environmental science, and communications), Agriculture (options in Agribusiness, Animal Science, Plant and Soil Science, Site Specific Management, and General Agriculture), and in Land Surveying. The College also offers a M.S. level graduate program with emphasis areas in forest science, geospatial science, wildlife ecology and management, and natural resources management. The Arkansas Forest Resources Center provides resources for research and extension through a partnership with the University of Arkansas System, Division of Agriculture.
