Job Description:

What the job is:

During this internship you will learn how a working forest is managed and spend time with every department at the division. Below are a few examples of the kind of work you’ll gain exposure to:

• Forest Management – Flag boundaries for streams, property lines, wildlife retention areas, and wildlife habitat features.

• Nursery – Hand weeding, removing insects and disease, mixing soil, and fertilizing of nursery stock (redwood seedlings). 

• GIS – Assist in preparing maps for road access, engineering, wildlife surveys, easements, property line agreements and leases to name a few.

• Conservation Planning – Collect data for research and operational planning on wildlife, plants, fish and other features throughout the property.

• Harvest Operations – Monitor contractors who use new technology and equipment processes that reduce the impact of harvesting to the forest. If any of this is new to you, that’s ok, we’ll teach you everything you need to know to safely do your work.

Who you will work with:

Professional foresters, biologists, scientists, land surveyors, cartographers, drone pilots, and much more. During the time you are with us you will be working for and with many of these professionals learning how an industrial forest is managed.

Work schedule:

We start the workday early in our industry. Be prepared to start at 6:30 am and work anywhere from 8-10 hours. The schedule may fluctuate and is determined by the employees you work with. This is a summer job. The hours are long so we can take advantage of the sunlight.

Who you are:

You have completed your first year of college and are ready to start exploring possible career options. You are an avid learner, inquisitive and enjoy variety in your work. You are dependable and aren’t afraid to ask questions or ask for help when needed. Most of all you enjoy being outdoors and are excited about working in an industry that offers you that opportunity.

Salary:
Interns will be required to submit a secondary application near the end of the internship to be
considered for the scholarship. If awarded, the scholarship will be up to $3,000.
Benefits:

Housing or a stipend towards housing may be available for interns out of the area.
