Deadline: Sun, 11/03/2024 - 12:00pm Employer: Green Diamond Job Field: Forestry Job Type: Seasonal, Temporary, Internship Location: Washington Location Detail: Shelton, WA Job Description: PROGRAM DETAILS The purpose of the Green Diamond Opportunity Internship Program is to expose students interested in forestry and natural resources and help them navigate, grow, and thrive in the profession. The program is intended for students who are currently pursuing academic degrees in an accredited college of forestry or natural resources and to help them achieve their academic goals. What the job is: During this internship you will learn how a working forest is managed; below are a few examples of the kind of work you’ll gain exposure to: Flag boundaries for streams, property lines, wildlife retention areas, and wildlife habitat features. Assist with irrigation, tree tagging, weed spraying, vegetation control, and seeding fertilization. • Assist in marking harvest unit boundaries, unstable slope and aquatic resource buffers. • Assist in road layout and harvest unit design. • Traverse proposed road locations and unit boundaries with a survey grade GPS unit. If any of this is new to you, that’s ok, we’ll teach you everything you need to know to safely do your work. Who you will work with: Day-to-day you’ll work with our team of foresters and engineers, who will train you on everything you need to know throughout your internship. You’ll also have the opportunity to interact with other departments across the division including operations, biology, GIS, and inventory. Where you’ll work: The Washington internship is located in Mason County along the southernmost tip of Puget Sound near the foothills of the Olympic National Forest. Our office is in the historic city of Shelton where the Green Diamond family legacy began. Housing is available for candidates from out of the area. Qualifications: Criteria • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program (associate or bachelor’s) in forestry or related natural resource program at a US institution. • Interested in encouraging and promoting a culture of inclusion within the profession. Internship • Preferred fields of study include forestry, fisheries, wildlife biology or relevant Natural Resource based disciplines. Successful candidates will be selected for a paid internship lasting up to 12-weeks. Who you are: You have completed your first year or two of college and are ready to start exploring possible career options. You are an avid learner, inquisitive and enjoy variety in your work. You are dependable and aren’t afraid to ask questions and ask for help when needed. Most of all you enjoy being outdoors and are excited about working in an industry that offers you that opportunity. Salary: Scholarship • Interns will be required to submit a secondary application near the end of the internship to be considered for the scholarship. If awarded, the scholarship will be up to $3,000.
