Job Description:

The Georgia Adopt-A-Stream State Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the State’s citizen or community science, volunteer water quality monitoring program. This position is in the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, Watershed Protection Branch, in Atlanta, Georgia. The position supports river and watershed protection throughout the state, from the Blue Ridge Mountains and Piedmont region to the black water creeks of South Georgia, and our 100-mile coastal estuarine and marine ecosystems. This position is supported by a diverse and active advisory board.

 

Primary responsibilities include:

• Leading our network of statewide trainers and community coordinators

• Conducting water quality training workshops

• Developing and updating workshop presentations and water monitoring guides

• Writing newsletters and assisting with marketing, promotion, and social media

• Assisting with the program website and the volunteer water quality monitoring database

• Assisting with the annual conference celebrating volunteer achievements

 

This position requires frequent communication with the public and our partner programs, moderate fieldwork including opportunities to canoe and kayak, travel throughout Georgia, and the flexibility to work in the evenings and on weekends. The incumbent of this role will possess sound writing and communication skills, solid technical skills to support social media, web development, and/or GIS needs, and a fundamental comprehension of rivers and aquatic ecology and factors impacting watershed health. Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in science, preferably ecology or biology or the environmental sciences.

Miscellaneous:

Preference may be given to applicants with the following experience:

• Event coordination experience such as organizing conferences, meetings, paddling activities, river

cleanups

• Coordinating citizen or community science water quality monitoring programs similar to Georgia Adopt-A-Stream

Salary:
$36,000 to $50,000 pending experience.
