Job Description:

Seeking a temporary, full-time (up to 40 hrs./wk.) aquatic field technician for the Spring-Fall 2024 field season. Duties for this position will be primarily focused on sampling nongame fishes but may also include surveys for freshwater mussels and other rare aquatic species throughout the state. Priority projects include the conservation of Sicklefin and Robust Redhorses. The position will be based out of the GA DNR Wildlife Resources Conservation Center in Social Circle, Georgia*, however most field sites will require travel. Data collection will include electrofishing, fyke netting, seining, snorkeling, and possibly hookah techniques. Additional duties will include equipment cleaning and maintenance, data

entry, and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Some college coursework in fisheries management, fisheries techniques, or related fields.

• Ability to work in inclement conditions including heat, cold, rain, turbid water, and biting insects.

• Availability of multi-day overnight travel Monday-Friday and a valid driver’s license.

• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. for short distances.

• Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel.

 

Desired skills:

• Ability to trailer (including backing) and operate small boats from 14-20 feet.

• Demonstrated experience with various aquatic sampling techniques.

• Ability to identify aquatic species in the Southeast US.

Miscellaneous:

*On-site housing may be available if desired.

Term of employment is up to 6 months after the expected start date in April 2024. Rate of pay is

$14.00/hr.
