Job Description:

The Arborist II position provides advanced ground support for all tree related activities including activities such as rigging, traffic and pedestrian control. Work is performed in a field environment, outdoors in all weather conditions, negotiating rough terrain and working around traffic. Incumbents may be required to lift up to 100 pounds. Arborists work out of Urban Forestry Headquarters, East Delta Park, Portland.

What you will get to do:

• Prune, remove, apply pest treatment, and plant trees accessible by ground, ladder, or aerial man lift.

• Operate and maintain equipment, tools, and vehicles used in the care of trees including but not limited to small to mid-size tractors and attachments, trailers, tree spades, air compressors, chippers, stump grinders, and chainsaws.

• Exam trees for hazards and conditions, recognizing pest problems and applying treatment following Federal, State, and local regulations.

• Provide traffic and pedestrian control.

Qualifications:

1. Knowledge and experience applying professional arboricultural practices including the use and operation of tools and equipment used in the care of trees, such as evaluation of disease, insect, root problems, pruning, removal and rigging techniques.

2. Ability and experience evaluating Tree Conditions and hazards.

3. Knowledge and experience safely and effectively performing assigned work while meeting OSHA and ANSI standards for tree operations.

4. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, able to understand, follow written and verbal instructions.

5. Experience working effectively with people from diverse backgrounds, cultures and gender identities, and how your work effectively within a diverse team

6. Ability to use office technology (iPads/phones/computers) to document and track work tasks and projects.

Salary:
Starts at $30.27 hourly
