Area Forester

The Virginia Department of Forestry is seeking a field forester in the VDOF Five Forks district to provide professional forestry assistance and advice to forest landowners. This is a field-based position focused in an area with a high forest management workload.

Duties include but are not limited to:

 

• forest management and protection including forest management plan development and technical assistance to private and state landowners

• prescribed burn planning and implementation

• forest health observation and management

• state and federal cost share program implementation to promote tree planting and forest management activities

• watershed and riparian forest management including promoting riparian buffer establishment, riparian buffer tax credit signups, and recommendations on timber harvests to apply silvicultural best management practices

• conservation education and outreach including landowner education programs

• coordination with local governments, state agencies, consulting foresters, loggers, conservation groups, and citizen organizations

•assisting forest technicians with preventing and suppressing wildfires, inspecting timber harvests, and ensuring compliance with timber theft and wildland fire laws.
