Area Forester(s)

Both the James River District and the Southern Rivers District includes a mix of suburban and rural areas requiring team members to provide a wide range of forestry assistance to landowners. This position will be responsible for implementing the Department’s forest management program at the local level. These duties include providing professional assistance in natural resources management and protection, land use planning, forestland conservation, urban and community forestry, watershed and riparian forest management, conservation education, and forest health. The area forester also provides forest resource information to partner agencies, local governments, private businesses, conservation organizations, and citizen groups. This position provides leadership in the prevention and suppression of forest fires, and enforces the seed tree, water quality and fire laws.

Within 6 months of hire, the chosen candidate must live in Amherst County if chosen for the Amherst County position, Cumberland or Buckingham County if chosen for the Cumberland County position, and Halifax County if chosen for the Halifax County position.
