Job Description:

Washington Farms is a prominent agritourism destination in the state of Georgia, and is currently looking to hire an assistant farm manager to work alongside the farm manager and their team. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, assist with the planting and harvesting of crops, help with construction and building projects, make farm purchases, maintain general landscaping, operate tractors and machinery, etc. This position works directly under our farm manager who will help train you and assign your tasks and responsibilities.

This position is multifaceted. Since Washington Farms is an agritourism farm, we are open to the general public in the spring and fall for our fun activities and U-Pick options. Because of this, we have seasons that will require you to engage with customers and our part-time employees on the weekends, in addition to your standard farm work during the week. You must be able and willing to help customers and seasonal staff during the times that we are open to the public. Your responsibilities during these times may include, but are not limited to, helping and engaging with customers, helping employees, assisting with orientation and staff training, managing groups of 5 or more employees at a time, etc.

To be successful in this role you must be available and willing to do both the agriculture work in the “off” season, and the agritourism work in the “on” season. You must be friendly and approachable, kind and respectful, smart and quick thinking, have the ability to problem solve and share your opinion, and meet the qualifications below.

This position was created with long-term growth and development in mind. As Washington Farms continues to grow, more responsibilities are created, and therefore more managers are needed. As an Assistant Farm Manager, the goal is for you to learn and train under the General Farm Manager in hopes of you also becoming a General Farm Manager one day as you gain more experience and knowledge about our farm and our agricultural environment.

About Washington Farms

Washington Farms is a family owned agritourism farm located in Bogart, Ga. It was started in 1993 and has continued to provide our community and surrounding counties with a fun, activity packed, family-friendly farm experience. We offer U-Pick strawberry picking in the spring as well as a U-Pick pumpkin patch and corn maze in the fall. We also have a wide range of over 35 fun activities for families to come to the farm and enjoy. The ultimate goal of Washington Farms is to provide a place where families and friends can come make memories that will last a lifetime! Our motto is just that: “Making Memories since 1993.”

 

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

2 to 4-year degree in an agricultural field, or equivalent work experience in related agricultural setting.

 

Must be able to work an average of 40 hours a week with an average 9 hour workday, which can vary depending on the season.

 

Weekend and evening work required as needed depending on the season.

 

Must be able to work individually as well as with a team.

 

Must be able to follow instructions with minimal to no supervision.

 

Must be able to perform and complete tasks assigned to you with minimal need for supervision.

 

Must be able to focus on tasks until they are completed satisfactorily.

 

Must have knowledge of tractors, irrigation and running farm equipment

 

Must have knowledge of planting, harvesting and related processes.

 

Must have general knowledge or experience with building/construction related projects.

 

Must have experience using a variety of tools.

 

Must be able to do manual labor and work outdoors

 

Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.

 

Ability to be respectful, approachable, friendly and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.

 

Must be supportive of the mission and overall growth of Washington Farms in the agritourism sector.

 

Work Environment & Physical Demands

Frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.

 

Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.

 

Must be able to work with and around a wide range of fertilizers, pesticides, fumes, etc

 

Must be able to tolerate blood, animal dander, manure, dust, odors, etc.

 

Must be able to operate tractors and motor vehicles of various kinds.

 

Must be able to stay up late during certain harvesting/planting seasons as necessary.

 

Must be able to work weekends as needed during certain seasons.
