Salary: $4,174.00 - $5,615.00 Monthly

 

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Forest Practices in the NW Region is seeking a forester to join a team that assists the Forest Practices district. You will be the assistant forester responsible for reviewing and making concurrence decisions on Water Type Modifications in the region and reviewing class II FPAs. You will also be part of a team of field foresters who use forestry skills to help make decisions on Forest Practices applications.

 

Are you interested in a career that allows you to serve local communities by leading/mentoring other natural resource professionals in support of the “Forest Practices” program? This program implements the “Forest Practices Act,” and “Timber/fish/Wildlife” agreement. The goals of both the act and agreement are to protect natural resources such as water quality and fish and wildlife habitat while simultaneously maintaining a viable forest products industry. These duties involve enforcing forest practices rules in collaboration with other state agencies and Indian Tribes.

 

The duty station for this position is located in Sedro-Woolley, WA, in the scenic Skagit Valley. World-class outdoor recreation opportunities abound in the area. The main entrance to North Cascades National Park is only 1 hr. drive to the east. The San Juan Islands can be accessed from Anacortes, just a 45-minute drive to the west. Additional recreation opportunities can be found in the surrounding Mt. Baker/Snoqualmie National Forest and state forest trust lands. For more urban experiences, Seattle, WA. And Vancouver, B.C. are each only an hour and a half drive away.

 

Responsibilities:

 

--Review water type modification forms (WTMs), and schedule interdisciplinary teams (IDTs) to field review WTMs.

--Review and confirm class 2 forest practices applications.

--Assist office staff with processing forest practices applications.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

 

--Associate degree in forestry or similar natural resources degree;

OR equivalent education and/or experience in professional natural resource management.

--Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and public records retention and requests are followed.
