Salary: $4,299.00 - $5,783.00 Monthly

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has an exciting opportunity within our Northeast Region as an Assistant Forest Practices Forester (NRS2).  

The Northeast Region is currently looking for two Assistant Forest Practices Foresters to join our team! One position will be based out of Deer Park, WA, and is responsible for covering Spokane, Pend Oreille, Southern Stevens, and part of Lincoln Counties. The other position will be based out of Colville, WA, and will be responsible for covering Okanogan, Ferry, and Northern Stevens Counties.

These positions assist Forest Practices Unit Foresters in evaluating harvest proposals, stream crossing structures, and protecting Washington’s public resources. This is accomplished by possessing a working knowledge of the Washington State Forest Practice Rules and evaluating and approving/disapproving proposed Forest Practice applications. Assistant Forest Practice Foresters also help facilitate Interdisciplinary teams of natural resource professionals when evaluating proposals.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and close out expired Forest Practice Applications (FPA) by conducting site visits and documenting compliance with RCW 76.09 and WAC 222 (Forest Practice Rules)
  • Review class 2/3 Forest Practices Applications 
  • Independently review Water Type Modification Forms (WTMFs) for completeness and determine if they can be accepted for review, based on established parameters. Independently gathering input from TFW cooperators and coordinating both office and field ID team reviews of proposals that do not have unanimous concurrence from the TFW cooperators
  • Compliance with Forest Practices activities
  • Compliance of Forest Practices Applications
  • Assist and fill in for office technicians

Required Qualifications: 
 

  • Bachelor’s degree in forestry or other natural resources-related field AND one year of professional natural resource management experience;
    OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, GIS, and forestry measuring tools.
  • Knowledge of timber harvesting and forest road construction practices.
