Job Description:

The Assistant NTX Preserves Manager will support the Preserves Manager with implementation of conservation programs, ecological restoration, and preserve management plans on TNC lands. Stewardship may include ecological restoration, species monitoring, exotic species control, prescribed burn preparation, grazing management, conducting field trips and/or leading volunteer workdays. This position will also maintain preserve boundaries and fences, preserve buildings and infrastructure, tools and equipment, and operation of heavy machinery. She/he will also support community outreach and education, assist with partner and private lands projects, and assist with other conservation projects as necessary. The Assistant NTX Preserves Manager will be a member of TNC-Texas prescribed fire team. Overnight travel outside north-central Texas is approximately 20%.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

BA/BS/AS/Technical or vocational degree in science-related field and 1-year related experience in custodial and ecological land management or similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience recognizing plant and animal species indigenous to eastern Texas region.

Experience operating various types of equipment.

Experience working in a team environment.

Must be able to obtain related licenses or certifications as required. (e.g. NWCG FFT2 or higher, First Aid, CPR, herbicide application, ATV safety, and driver’s license).

Miscellaneous:

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

2+ years experience in natural resources field, or land management.

Experience working with or knowledge of grassland ecology.

Advanced plant and animal identification skill.

Experience operating various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner (e.g.; lawn mower, chainsaw, tractor skid-steer, ATV/UTV, backing a trailer, off-road driving, two-way radio, etc.).

Extended PC familiarity, including database and/or GIS knowledge
