Job Description:

The Department of Fish and Wildlife Sciences in the College of Natural Resources (CNR) in Moscow, ID, invites applications for an academic-year, tenure-track position as Assistant or Associate Professor in Wildlife Ecology and Management. We seek a faculty member with expertise in wildlife ecology and management with strong quantitative skills and a commitment to undergraduate and graduate student education and teaching.

Responsibilities: The position will involve approximately 40% teaching/advising, 40% scholarship and 20% outreach/service. Teaching responsibilities will include a senior-level capstone course in Wildlife Management, a graduate-level course in the candidate’s specialty area, and possible online graduate and/or undergraduate instruction. The successful candidate will serve as the faculty mentor for the Student Chapter of the Wildlife Society. The successful candidate is expected to develop a strong, extramurally funded research program addressing basic ecological and management-relevant questions in wildlife ecology in Idaho, surrounding regions, and nationally; to mentor graduate and undergraduate students; and to work across disciplines with other faculty both within and outside the College of Natural Resources.

Qualifications:

Required: The applicant must possess a Ph.D. with a focus on wildlife ecology and management and have a research emphasis on the ecology, management and conservation of wildlife populations and their habitats. The applicant must have in-depth knowledge about current management issues relating to wildlife and have strong quantitative skills. The candidate should demonstrate successful research productivity through external funding and refereed publications, and must demonstrate commitment to teaching excellence.

Desired: Desired research experience includes experience directing research projects, knowledge about diverse funding opportunities, post-doctoral experience, wildlife agency experience, interest in understanding conservation and harvest management of wildlife populations in Idaho and the surrounding region, and experience using contemporary quantitative and field methods in wildlife research. Desired teaching and service experience includes experience as the primary instructor or teaching assistant for a university-level wildlife ecology or management course, demonstrated ability to successfully work collaboratively, experience transferring knowledge, and willingness to engage in service to students, the department, and the university.

The Institution: The University of Idaho is the Land Grant Institution of Idaho, located in the Panhandle of northern Idaho at the ecotone of the Palouse Prairie and the Rocky Mountains. The town of Moscow is a vibrant university community with year-round social, cultural and outdoor activities. The College of Natural Resource has three academic departments: Fish and Wildlife Sciences; Forest, Rangeland and Fire Sciences; and Natural Resources and Society that offer numerous undergraduate degree programs and 3 graduate degrees (MS, PhD and Master of Natural
