Employer Summerville Parks & Recreation Department Job Description, Responsibilities and Required Qualifications or Skills The purpose of this job is to assist the Recreation Director in the management and administration of the Parks & Recreation Department with an emphasis of supervision of recreational programming. This position requires the performance of advanced professional and administrative work requiring management, supervisory, and analytical skills as well as knowledge of the Parks and Recreation profession. MAJOR DUTIES Organizes and coordinates athletic leagues including online player registration. Creates practice and game schedules using recreation software.Assists the director with the fiscal management of the department budget.Researches and makes recommendations for athletic equipment purchases. Recruits and trains volunteer coaches and sports officials relevant to sport.Manages fiscal reports and performs administrative work.Assists with special events and community relation projects.Seeks out opportunities to host athletic tournaments; Serves as tournament director.Performs recreation facility supervision.Seeks and applies for grants.Conducts long-term planning for the department. Assists with capital project supervision. Assists maintenance with mowing and trimming recreation properties as needed.Prepares playing fields relevant to sport.Communicates well with the general public, parents, coaches, players and co-workers.Performs other related duties assigned by the director. Associate's degree or equivalent experience; Preferred Bachelors degree in Recreation or Sports Management; Preferred Certified Parks and Recreation Professional.2-3 years administrative experience in Parks and Recreation which includes athletic/recreation programming.Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with two to three years of experience or service.Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
