Job Description:

The Department Of Environmental Science and Studies invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of Natural Resource Management and Conservation to begin in August 2023.

We seek an interdisciplinary scholar who can address natural resource management issues from scientific perspectives. We are interested in applicants who will make use of the forests and other environments on our 27,000 acre campus in their research program and pedagogy. Applicants with a background in science, and experience and interests related to sustainable forest management, carbon forestry, biodiversity conservation, watershed management, environmental markets, and related topics are encouraged to apply. On campus research opportunities are abundant and include the long-leaf pine project (https://www.berry.edu/academics/majors/biology/longleaf-pine-project/) and the recently established Biological Field Station. We also envision our new faculty member investing in established departmental partnerships, including those with The Nature Conservancy and Coosa River Basin Initiative.

Our collegial and growing department strives for excellence in teaching and mentoring students from a wide range of backgrounds in a comprehensive college with a liberal arts core. The candidate should share our department's commitment to student engagement in the classroom, field, and community. Berry College is committed to increasing the diversity of our faculty and staff. We welcome applications from all groups and strongly encourage women and persons of color to apply for this position.

Our new hire will teach a variety of environmental science courses and will develop upper-division classes in natural resource management and related topics. In addition to a commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship, the successful candidate should possess a strong interest in service and mentoring students in a residential college environment.

Qualifications:

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Natural Resource Management, Forestry, Geography, Conservation Science, or a related field. Postdoctoral experience is preferred.

How to Apply:

Applicants should submit the following: a letter describing the candidate's qualifications and interest in this position; a CV; unofficial undergraduate and graduate transcripts; a statement of teaching philosophy; a statement of research plans; a separate statement of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion that includes a commitment to teaching a diverse student body; and names and contact information of three references.

Review of applications will begin on September 15, 2022 and continue until the position is filled. Specific questions about the position may be sent directly to the chair of the search committee, Dr. Zachary Taylor (ztaylor@berry.edu).
