Job Description:

Davis & Elkins College, a private college in the liberal arts tradition, invites nominations and applications for an assistant professor in the Department of Biology and Environmental Science beginning in the Fall 2023 semester. A Ph.D. in Forestry is strongly preferred, but those with ABD will be considered. We seek applicants with a strong interest in teaching and advising, who will be able to teach a 4/4 course load in a variety of forestry and natural resources management courses. While forestry will be the faculty member’s primary teaching responsibility, an ability to teach a range of courses in Environmental Science and Sustainable Resource Management is strongly preferred. Rank is at assistant professor and the position is renewable.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

We seek applicants with a strong interest in teaching, advising and mentoring, who can contribute to teaching related to 'SAF Required Areas of Study' that may include but are not limited to classes in dendrology, wood products and harvesting, forest/natural resource management, and GIS and remote sensing. Specific instructional assignments depend upon the candidate's expertise and the needs of the department. In addition, the candidate is expected to advise and provide mentorship to undergraduate students in the department. The faculty member will work closely with faculty in the department and division, field station management, WV Division of Forestry, forest landowner associations, other state and federal agencies, Society of American Foresters, and other organizations within and beyond West Virginia.

Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in Forestry is strongly preferred, but those with ABD will be considered
