Job Description:

The School of Natural Resources (SNR) at the University of Missouri (MU) seeks applicants for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position of Assistant/Associate Professor, with expertise in recreation resource management/human dimensions of natural resources.

The successful candidate will be expected to make significant contributions to research (45%), teaching (45%), and service (10%). We seek candidates to develop an extramurally funded, high-impact research program that addresses contemporary issues related to policy, visitor experiences, behavior and resource management outdoor recreation; interpretation, outdoor education, and environmental communication; environmental conflict management; human dimensions of natural resources; or other aspects of social behavior and resource management in parks, outdoor recreation, and tourism. The successful candidate will typically teach 3-4 courses per year, supporting the two degrees in the undergraduate curriculum (Parks, Recreation, Sport and Tourism; Natural Resources Science and Management) as well as the graduate program in the School of Natural Resources, focusing on human dimensions of natural resources, outdoor recreation policy, visitor behavior, interpretation of natural and culture resources, and methods in research and evaluation. The successful candidate will mentor and guide undergraduate students in projects, internships, and independent studies; supervise graduate students (M.S. and Ph.D.); and serve on graduate student thesis/dissertation committees. Service expectations include contributing to school and university committees, as well as professional involvement off-campus.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualification : Ph.D. by the time of appointment in a relevant field (e.g., park, recreation, and tourism management; outdoor education; human dimensions of natural resources; conservation social science; environmental studies/science; natural resources; geography; sociology).
