Job Description:

The Wildlife Conservation Section is offering 2 seasonal positions for winter - spring 2024. The employees will primarily be conducting surveys for bats in caves and culverts throughout Georgia. Duties will include measuring and weighing bats, swabbing bats, collecting environmental conditions data, and handling and storing samples. Applicants must be willing to work long days (> 10 hours) under physically challenging conditions (e.g., working in dark, wet, and cold conditions). Other activities may include data entry, gear maintenance, and other computer work as needed.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have a valid class C driver’s license. Applicants must have college-level coursework in ecology, wildlife biology, or a related field. Applicants should be in good physical condition and be able to work in a variety of field conditions including crouching and crawling in caves and culverts where encounters with snakes, alligators, biting insects, etc. are possible. Applicants should be comfortable performing data entry and other computer-based work.

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to individuals that have current rabies pre-exposure prophylaxis and have experience with bat handling and bat identification. Experience surveying caves is also preferred.

Duration January to April/May 2024 (limited term of 6-months)

Salary:
$13.00 per hour; 40 hrs/week

Benefits:

Any travel to study sites will be by state vehicle, and travel expenses will be reimbursed. Lodging will be provided during surveys and can be provided for entire six-month term, if needed.
