The employees will primarily be conducting acoustic surveys for bats throughout Georgia. Applicants must be willing to work for long days (> 10 hours) under physically challenging conditions (e.g., hot days walking through mixed habitats). Activities will include collecting bat acoustic calls using the NABat protocol, downloading and organizing call data, and conducting call analysis using bat call ID programs and visual-vetting. Other activities may include mist-netting surveys, bridge and culvert surveys, other small mammal surveys and other work as needed. Travel to study sites will be by state vehicle, and travel expenses will be reimbursed. Lodging will be provided during surveys. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have a valid class C driver’s license. Applicants must have some college-level coursework in ecology, wildlife biology, or a related field. Applicants should be in good physical condition and be able to work at night and in hot, humid field conditions where encounters with snakes, alligators, biting insects, etc. are possible. Applicants should be comfortable performing data entry and other computer-based work. Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to individuals that have current rabies pre-exposure prophylaxis, have experience with bat mist netting, bat identification techniques, Anabat detectors and bat call identification. Some experience using a GPS and GIS is also preferred.
