Wildlife Mississippi is seeking a Biological Science Technician to support the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Theodore Roosevelt National Wildlife Refuge Complex. This position offers excellent entry-level field experience with USFWS while assisting with the management, restoration, and enhancement of waterfowl impoundments, wetlands, and forested wetlands throughout Mississippi and Louisiana. 

The Technician will work closely with a field biologist to support hydrology agreements, awarded grants, project monitoring, biological surveys, draft reports, photographs, spatial data, and other project information needed to document restoration progress. The role is designed for a capable field team member who can complete assigned tasks independently while staying closely coordinated with the field biologist. 

What You Will Do 
•    Support restoration project monitoring: Assist the biologist by collecting data and information on hydrology, construction, and restoration activities that improve habitat conditions for wintering waterfowl.
•    Collect field data: Gather information to help determine whether project goals are on track; conduct biological surveys; report findings; and support habitat quality and quantity assessments after construction.
•    Assist with data and GIS-ready materials: Collect, gather, and draft data for digitization and project documentation.
•    Prepare draft documentation: Draft reports and provide photographic documentation, preliminary charts, and graphs to track project timelines, goals, and outcomes.
•    Work as part of a conservation team: Coordinate with the field biologist and work cooperatively with Complex staff and other partners as needed. 
•    Participate in wildlife monitoring: Make field observations, gather biological data, report findings, and assist with information for environmental assessments or environmental impact statements.
•    Work safely in field conditions: Perform duties responsibly in variable weather, remote locations, difficult terrain, and physically demanding circumstances.
•    Work independently on assigned tasks and in close coordination with the field biologist.
•    Perform other duties as assigned.
 

Minimum Qualifications
•    Completed, by entry on duty, at least twenty-four (24) semester hours in any combination of courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics, with at least six (6) hours directly related to this position; and/or a combination of education and related experience. Experience must be related to this position and conducted in a controlled environment such as a research or control program. 
•    At least six (6) months of related experience in conservation, wetland management, and restoration.
•    Ability to complete assigned tasks independently while meeting timelines and working with appropriate supervision.
•    Experience operating and maintaining technical equipment, such as an iPad, cell phone, or similar field tools, and recreational vehicles. 
•    Working knowledge of common software applications, including Word and Excel. 
•    Valid driver’s license.
