Deadline: Fri, 12/22/2023 - 12:00pm Employer: US Geological Survey Job Field: Wildlife Job Type: Seasonal, Temporary, Internship Location: Maryland Location Detail: Laurel, MD Job Description: The USGS Eastern Ecological Science Center at Patuxent Research Refuge, Laurel, MD is seeking applicants for a Biological Science Technician position to support studies in Wildlife (Avian) Toxicology. This position is temporary (up to 180 days) and is at the GG-7 level. On-center housing at a lower than market rent may be available for eligible candidates. The appointments can start as soon as Feb/March 2024. Research in our group is focused on the effects of diverse anthropogenic and natural environmental stressors (e.g., pesticides, pharmaceuticals, PFAS, algal toxins) on wildlife health (including microbiome, immune and endocrine systems), and wildlife and zoonotic pathogen emergence. The technician will be involved in studies examining the effects of PFAS in birds. Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have previous field or laboratory experience with birds or other wildlife. A degree in wildlife biology, toxicology, ecology or other related field in the life sciences is preferred. Laboratory experience in conducting molecular or other bioassays, a plus but not required. Miscellaneous: N/A Salary: $20-30 per hr Benefits: Temporary appointees who work at least 130 hours per month for at least 90 days will be eligible to enroll in a Federal Employee Health Benefits (FEHB) plan.
