Job Description:
  • Duties listed are at the full performance GS-09 level.
  • The incumbent under the direction of a supervisor, provides program support for the collection, compilation, storage, analysis, reporting, and distribution of FIA data.
  • Assists researchers and staff in manipulation of data. Follows data governance activities for cataloging data, contributing to metadata management, data lineage, and data quality.
  • Ensure accurate and statistically consistent operation and identifies problems and bottlenecks in the FIA data management system and proposes improvements to the procedures used for collecting, verifying, compiling, and summarizing FIA data.
  • Performs project planning activities including scheduling, organizing, and executing field data collection projects related to natural resource inventory.
  • Collects data needed to carry out complex studies or portions of larger biological science investigations. Establishes work plans that include time and cost estimates, and the materials, supplies, and equipment to accomplish a study.
Qualifications:

 

Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.

  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt.
  • Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
  • Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.
  • Per Public Law 104-134 all Federal employees are required to have federal payments made by direct deposit to their financial institution.

Qualifications

Basic Requirement:



For GS-05 grade level: Applicant mustt meet one of the following:

A. Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

-OR-

B. Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major field of study that included 24 semester hours in course work in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. Related course work generally refers to courses that may be accepted as part of the program major.

C. Combination of education and experience that included 24 semester hours in course work in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, AND experience sufficient to demonstrate that I possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation that is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major in the appropriate field needed to perform the work of the occupation.



Specialized Experience Requirement:



For the GS-07 grade level: Applicant must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as providing support in collecting, compiling, analyzing and evaluating data collected on natural resources; organizing and reporting collected natural resource data; assisting in project planning activities including scheduling, organizing, and executing field data collection projects related to natural resource inventory.

Applicant must have successfully completed 1 full academic year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

-OR-

You are claiming Superior Academic Achievement. In order to be creditable under this provision, Superior Academic Achievement must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled, such as that identified in (B) above. Superior Academic Achievement is based on: (1) Class Standing - You must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses; OR (2) Grade-Point Average (G.P.A.) - You must have a grade-point average of either (a) 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on your official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or (b) 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum.; OR (3) Honor Society Membership - You may be considered eligible based on membership in one of the approved national scholastic honor societies listed by the Association of College Honor Societies (https://www.achsnatl.org/). Appropiate combinations of the experience as described in A AND the education described in B. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)



For the GS-09 grade level: Applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as collecting, compiling, analyzing and evaluating data collected on natural resources; organizing and verifying validity of collected natural resource data; assists in extracting and interpreting natural resource data analyzing forest health; performing biological data analysis.

You must have successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. Appropiate combinations of the the experience as described in (A) AND the education described in (B). (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

This is a Direct-Hire Authority position, all applicants who meet the minimum qualifications, to include any selective placement factor(s), if applicable, will be referred to the selecting official.
