This position offers meaningful field experience with USFWS while contributing to the restoration and enhancement of waterfowl impoundments, wetlands, and forested wetlands in Mississippi and Louisiana.The Biologist will help oversee hydrology agreements and awarded grants, track project goals and objectives, support financial and final reporting, and document restoration progress with photographs, spatial data, timelines, and contractor evaluations. The role requires strong field judgment, organization, communication, and the ability to coordinate work across partners and project sites.•Lead field oversight and coordination: Provide daily oversight of hydrology, construction, and restoration activities that improve habitat conditions for wintering waterfowl.•Track project performance: Gather, compile, and analyze data to determine whether project goals are on track; report findings; evaluate outcomes; and identify issues requiring coordination or correction.•Document restoration results: Prepare reports with photographs, spatial data, charts, graphs, timelines, evaluations, and clear explanations of project progress, delays, or developments.•Support GIS and data workflows: Prepare field data for digitization, digitize data, and process information foruse in ArcGIS.•Coordinate with partners: Work cooperatively with Complex staff, Wildlife Mississippi, contractors, NGOs, andother partners to deliver restoration construction projects, water-control management, and related resource programs.•Monitor wildlife and habitat conditions: Participate in wildlife monitoring by making field observations, gathering biological data, reporting findings, and assisting with information for environmental assessments or environmental impact statements.•Work safely in field conditions: Perform duties responsibly in variable weather, remote locations, difficult terrain, and physically demanding circumstances.•Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications• Completed, by entry on duty, at least nine (9) semester hours in wildlife subjects such as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management, or wildlife biology research courses; at least twelve (12) semester hours in zoology such as general zoology, ecology, genetics, parasitology, entomology, or related research courses; and at least nine (9) semester hours in botany or related plant science; or a combination of education and experience equivalent to a major in biological science with the coursework shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.• At least one (1) year of related experience in conservation, wetland management, and restoration.• Ability to complete tasks independently while meeting timelines and working with appropriate supervision.• Experience operating and maintaining technical equipment, such as an iPad, cell phone, or similar field tools, and recreational vehicles.• Working knowledge of common software applications, including Word, Excel, web browsers, and ArcGIS.• Valid driver’s license.Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Experience• At least two (2) years of related conservation experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.• Experience working on or conducting wetland restoration projects.• Experience monitoring plant or animal species as part of project management activities.• Experience supervising or managing staff or contractors to complete a conservation project.• Familiarity with current trends and practices in wetland restoration.• Ability to communicate clearly in writing, speech, and graphical formats with government officials, coworkers, contractors, partners, and the public.Send resume' and supporting documentation to Brett_Moule@fws.gov Job Field: Wildlife Job Type: Seasonal, Temporary, Internship Location Detail: Office space will be at the Theodore Roosevelt Complex Headquarters on Panther Swamp National Wildlife Refuge in Yazoo City, MS.
