Job Description:

Responsibilities

• Proposal and study plan preparation

• Surveys of rare and sensitive plants and/or plant communities

• Develop, evaluate, and monitor threatened, endangered, and sensitive plant species and plant community and vegetation management programs

• Develop and/or modify established procedures for recording plant survey information in order to meet environmental assessment requirements

• General plant community description

• Voucher specimen collection and preparation

• Wetland delineations

• Prepare technical reports summarizing field findings

• Provide business development efforts to expand client base

• Learn other aspects of environmental consulting

• Be a mentor to other staff & be mentored on the job

• Improve and increase specific skill sets

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Botany, Plant Ecology, Natural Resources, or a closely related field; Master’s degree is preferred

• Candidates who have advanced knowledge of plant taxonomy in the southeastern US and who focused their master’s thesis on floral inventories will receive top consideration

• Minimum of three (3) years’ experience conducting vegetation surveys

• Minimum of 24 credit hours in botany

• Ability to identify flora of the Appalachians, New England, or Mid-Atlantic region

• Strong technical writing, organization, and time management skills

• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

• Ability to travel on short notice, at night, and/or on weekends, and potentially for extended periods of time

• Excellent attention to detail

• Excellent customer service skills

• Must be able to thrive in a self-directed manner

• Excellent communication skills

• Ability to promote Copperhead’s services internally and externally

• Ability to take initiative, resolve problems and ensure tasks are completed in the most effective and safe manner possible

• Ability to work as a member of a team as well as independently to make decisions and complete tasks in the most effective and safe manner possible

• Willing to work long hours and extended periods away from home

• Experience working in challenging weather conditions

• Ability to carry heavy equipment long distances in rugged terrain

• Federal/State wetland permitting experience is preferred • Must hold a valid driver’s license
