Bottomland Tree Research Technician (Seasonal)

Great opportunity to learn on-the-job, and gain research experience! The successful candidate, under the guidance of Dr. Babst, will assist with running a large scale study of mature oak tree roots, and setting up a large scale field experiment on oak seedlings. He or she will be responsible for performing physiological techniques and/or imaging techniques (training will be provided), collecting and analyzing data, collecting acorns, assisting to build and maintain shade structures. Both field work and lab work will be required, as needed. Ability to work both independently and as a team-member is essential. Expected term of employment will be July through mid-March, with the potential for extension depending on satisfactory performance and availability of funding.

The goal of the study is to better understand the interactive effects of temperature, flood, and dormancy on oak root physiology. Studies will answer questions that are key to improving management of green tree reservoirs (GTRs), and other restored of bottomland hardwood forests, to optimize both sustainability of the forest and provision of a variety of ecosystem services, including habitat for migratory waterfowl.
