Job Responsibilities



Implements a BMP courtesy exam program within the assigned region/counties by providing technical assistance and conducting on-site inspections of active forestry operations. Generates courtesy exam reports for monthly publication.  Provides recommendations on active logging operations; monitors the BMP forestry program for compliance and effectiveness.

Coordinates educational programs for the assigned area.  Develops and presents educational programs dealing with silvicultural, nonpoint source, pollution prevention.  

Monitors and accesses accomplishments of the BMP program.  Accurately tracks compliance with state BMP's progress and status.

Frequently fly major drainages to locate forest operations in sensitive areas and detect potential water quality problems; responds to forestry-related water quality complaints.  Conducts aerial surveys.

Serves as the agency contact for environmental issues related to forestry in the assigned areas.  Provides internal training for staff.  Attends meetings and provides updates and reports on current issues.  Performs administrative duties related to the position.

The worksite for this position is 413 Sidneys Road, Walterboro, SC 29488.  Optional county office locations are: Barnwell, Hampton, and Orangeburg. 

Qualifications:
Minimum and Additional Requirements



A bachelor's degree in forestry from a college or university accredited by the Society of American Foresters and three (3) years of forestry experience.  Must be a S.C. Registered Forester within six (6) months of hire date.

 

Additional Comments



Must be able to walk and navigate difficult terrain such as forestry operations, steep ground, thick brush and swampy areas.  Occasional overnight travel.
