Job Description:

The Community Arborist manages all tree planting and tree care activities. The Community Arborist provides supervision of apprentices, interns, and community volunteers. The Community Arborist grows Savannah Tree Foundation’s effectiveness through tree planting and stewardship.

 

Responsibilities

 

Tree Care

- Implement tree planting program on both public and private property

- Coordinate maintenance of all trees planted by STF

- Ensure ongoing tree health through pruning, mulching, weeding, and watering

- Keep up-to-date on best practices for planting, pruning, and tree care

- Maintain all equipment related to tree care, including truck, trailer, and tools

 

Program Management

- Coordinate the development, implementation, evaluation, and ongoing improvement of Savannah Tree Foundation programs related to tree planting and maintenance

- Work with Executive Director to prioritize planting areas to meet STF’s mission

- Maintain accurate records on program activities and participants

 

Workforce Development/Education

- Supervise Canopy Corps Apprentices during tree planting or maintenance activities

- Instruct on any tree care or maintenance modules in apprenticeship curriculum

- Model best practice tree planting and care activities to apprentices and volunteers

- Coordinate with industry partners to carry out external training programs

- Ensure safe work practices and maintain necessary certifications and trainings for safety compliance

 

Community Relations

- Interface with municipal and industry partners to identify spaces for public tree plantings and coordinate planting events

- Serve as a liaison with the community and general public

- Serve as a spokesperson for Savannah Tree Foundation at forums and events

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in related field, or equivalent skills and experience

- 3 or more years of relevant professional work experience

- ISA-certified arborist or willing and able to become certified within 3 months

- Experience with proper tree care techniques and ability to teach others

- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

- Commitment to trees and the environment

- Experience working independently

- Flexibility and willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed

- Ability to work collaboratively with people of different backgrounds

- Possession of a valid driver’s license

- Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather, stand for long periods of time, and to safely lift and move more than 50 lbs on a daily basis

- Willing and able to become CPR certified

- Knowledge of basic computer software including Microsoft Office

 

Desired Qualifications

- Experience with community outreach, volunteers, and partnerships

- Experience working with municipal tree ordinances

Salary:
$45,000 - $50,000 based on qualifications and experience

- Full-time position, including Saturdays, especially during planting season (November through March), and the occasional weeknight

- Health insurance provided within 30 days of hire

- 12 paid vacation days accrued annually

- 13 paid holidays annually, plus annual office closure last week of December
