The primary duties of this position are located within 30 miles of the state border; therefore, this position is exempt from the residency requirements. Applications will be considered from residents and non-residents of Colorado.

COLORADO PARKS AND WILDLIFE

Our Mission is to perpetuate the wildlife resources of the state, to provide a quality state parks system, and to provide enjoyable and sustainable outdoor recreation opportunities that educate and inspire current and future generations to serve as active stewards of Colorado's natural resources.

The Aquatic Wildlife Branch is responsible for management of aquatic wildlife resources for Colorado Parks and Wildlife, including fisheries management, hatcheries, native species conservation and recovery, aquatic nuisance species control, and fish health.

Description of Job

Coordination of statewide native amphibian species conservation and recovery. Work closely with biologists, hatchery staff and researchers, in close communication with the Native Aquatic Species Manager, to recover and conserve native amphibian species. Develop good working relationships with other agencies and key stakeholders to maintain and strengthen support for CPW’s conservation goals and activities. Coordinate with external partners, including federal agencies, NGOs, and universities. Represent CPW and the State of Colorado on amphibian conservation teams and committees. Provide biological and technical expertise. Identify research needs and evaluate priorities. Participate in determining conservation goals and actions for native amphibian species and their habitats. Provide field support as needed.

Boreal Toad Recovery

Coordinate Boreal Toad statewide conservation actions. Determine and implement conservation priorities. Chair and represent CPW and the state of Colorado on the Boreal Toad Recovery Team. Coordinate and plan annual Team meetings. Coordinate captive propagation. Review and assess annual breeding site monitoring and disease data. Periodically review and update the conservation plan.

Northern Leopard Frog Conservation

Coordinate Northern Leopard Frog statewide conservation actions. Determine and implement conservation priorities. Identify information gaps and develop long-term planning to address gaps. Participate in and/or facilitate Northern Leopard Frog working groups. Identify and apply for funding opportunities for research and conservation actions.

Amphibian Conservation

Develop long-term planning to identify information gaps and determine conservation actions for all native amphibians. Create internal and external working groups, as appropriate, to determine conservation needs and planning. Work with internal and external partners to evaluate needs and methods to address impacts of non-native and/or invasive amphibian species.

Conservation Planning and Implementation

Assist the Native Aquatic Species Manager with developing and updating guidance such as conservation plans. Determine planning needs for Tier 2 amphibian species and Species of Greatest Information Need, identified in the State Wildlife Action Plan (SWAP). Assist with revisions of the SWAP.

Native Aquatic Species Manager Assistance

Represents CPW on behalf of the Manager on conservation teams and committees. Assist with evaluating applications for grants and scientific collecting permits. In consultation with the Native Aquatic Species Manager, participate in USFWS Species Status Assessments. Assist with evaluating research proposals and prioritizing funding. Respond to inquiries from other agencies and the public as appropriate.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

Seven (7) years of relevant experience in herpetology, aquatic biology, wildlife biology, ecology, conservation, wildlife management, or an occupation related to the work assigned
to this position
OR

A combination of related education in herpetology, aquatic biology, wildlife biology, ecology, conservation, wildlife management and/or relevant experience in an occupation
related to the work assigned equal to seven (7) years

Substitutions

Additional appropriate experience will substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis. Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Current or former State experience relevant to this position
Current or former Colorado Parks & Wildlife work or volunteer experience
Professional-level writing, research, and communication skills.
Experience in or assisting in the planning, budgeting, implementation, monitoring, reporting, and evaluating programs and projects.
Experience with or education specific to native Colorado amphibian conservation work.

Conditions of Employment

Must possess and maintain a valid state of Colorado driver's license if operating a State vehicle.
Travel to in-person meetings and/or field-work required. Usually 5-7 days per month, occasionally more.
Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose the information on the application and provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify their application from the current position. Salary:
$2,832.92 - $3,682.62 Biweekly
$6,138.00 - $7,979.00 Monthly
$73,656.00 - $95,748.00 Annually
