Job Description:
  • Serves as a member of the Forest Service Research Executive Team, and as such is responsible for providing national leadership to comprehensive scientific programs.
  • Both nationally and internationally there is a strong and increasingly public interest and demand to manage forests and rangelands on a sustainable basis.
  • Serves as the principal consultant and expert advisor to the Chief of the Forest Service, Deputy Chiefs, Station Directors, and Regional Foresters on the silvical and ecological components of forest and rangeland management.
  • Determines the relative emphasis that should be placed on basic and applied phases of research to provide an adequate knowledge base for Federal, State, Tribal, and private forestry, and range programs.
  • Reviews Forest Service Research and Development Stations in terms of local, national, and international needs, makes recommendations, and strongly influences the implementation of any needed changes, modifications, or adjustments.
  • Stimulates and coordinates long-range cooperative programs with colleges; universities; foundations; Federal, State, Tribal, and private agencies; and other organizations engaged in research in forest and rangeland management.
  • Represents the Forest Service at national and international meetings concerning forest and rangeland management and protection research and associated subject matters.
Qualifications:

1. Demonstrated ability to lead collaborations with other leaders, team members and stakeholders to create, integrate and advance science and research agendas that support strategic plans, priorities and initiatives involving research in multidisciplinary areas of science. These may include silviculture, forest ecology, genetics, rangeland ecology, entomology, pathology, wildland fire science, atmospheric science, and climate change.



2. Demonstrated ability to lead, facilitate, and engage directly in technology transfer and science integration, ensuring that knowledge and technology for managing the Nations natural resources are available and accessible to a wide range of users, including resource managers and members of the public.

Salary:
$177,979 - $189,353 per year
