Graduate Research Assistant Ben Carr is a Masters Student and bear whisperer extraordinaire. After graduating from Warnell with his Bachelor’s, Ben worked for the Georgia DNR, gaining experience doing den checks, learning how to immobilize bears, and even honing his skills climbing trees to gather information on cubs. He is now applying these skills as our lead point man on a project investigating population size and genetic diversity of the Central Georgia Black Bear population. This work will assist the DNR in monitoring the health of this genetically isolated population and support potential translocation efforts to boost genetic diversity. When Ben isn’t tracking bears, he enjoys hiking and camping throughout the beautiful mountains of the Southeast. Education Education: B.S.
