The position represents the Region’s interests to private operators, business, governmental officials, tribal governments, and the public, where there is involvement in complex, sensitive issues affecting the District. This position provides input and recommends action on project proposals influencing state trust lands. Manages 4 professional staff and has responsibilities for 11 permanent staff, including hiring, training, and disciplinary action. Manages district timber sale staff to achieve a timber sale cut of approximately 40 million board feet annually and the administration of approximately 10-15 timber sales annually. In addition, accountable for achieving all RMAP engineering, ensuring all existing and newly constructed roads are maintained and built to Forest Practice Standards, land management, asset management, and Silviculture (young stand management) program deliverables/standards in the district by planning and services coordination with appropriate program regional leads.Responsibilities:Plans, leads, organizes, and controls the work performed by the organization.Manages state trust uplands for the highest and best use, while generating acceptable returns on investments, maintaining future options, and protecting public resources.Practices risk management when planning, leading, and organizing work performed within the Straits work unit.Be an active participant in the region management team.Provides leadership in building and maintaining relationships with groups that hold a stake in how trust lands are managed within the work units.Mentor staff and provide a positive working environment where people are respected and valued professionally. Required Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in forestry or a related natural sciences field;AND 5 years of relevant experience;OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.Knowledge of forest management objectives, timber management planning, and silvicultural principles.Knowledge of the Washington SEPA process, Forest Practices rules, laws, and practices, and associated agency policies.Knowledge of logging and forest road construction practices and technology.Ability to develop programs, timelines, and track accomplishments.Ability to work with minimal supervision.Ability to articulate expectations, develop and mentor staff, and ensure accountability.Ability to monitor complex budgetsCommitment to fostering and supporting an environment that honors diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice practices.
