Job Description:

The Division of Ecological Restoration’s (DER) mission is to restore and protect rivers, wetlands and watersheds for the benefit of people and the environment. DER seeks a leader with a can-do attitude to build a new Technical Services Branch (Branch) within DER. The Branch houses technical expertise that supports the Division’s restoration work, including restoration planning, GIS, engineering, and other mission-critical services. The Ecological Restoration Technical Services Branch Manager (Branch Manager) identifies staffing and resource needs, hires Branch staff, and guides staff achieve Branch goals. The Technical Services Branch collaborates closely with DER’s other branches, the Department of Fish and Game’s GIS team, and others to: develop and maintain cutting-edge technical knowledge and skills to support DER’s restoration work and the organizations it collaborates with; develop methods and tools to capture and organize DER’s extensive restoration knowledge; distill and translate DER’s restoration knowledge into tools, trainings, templates, systems, models, manuals, and best practices that support DER’s needs and the needs of agencies, towns, non-profit organizations, and other restoration partners; and develop and implement restoration project technical quality assurance / quality control procedures across the Division. The Branch Manager works closely with the directors and other branch managers and staff to develop the Branch’s vision and achieve its goals through sound strategy, effective teamwork, and deliberate action. They are thoughtful, self-motivated, and excel at collaborative problem solving.

 

This position will work under a hybrid model with a combination of in-office and telework days.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have at least five years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, technical or professional experience in the field of environmental science, biology, chemistry, earth science, environmental health, meteorology, natural science, toxicology or public health, of which at least three years must have been in a professional capacity, and of which at least one year must have been in a supervisory, managerial or administrative capacity, or any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions listed in the job posting.
