Job Description:

HHNT is seeking a full-time entry level or mid-level ecologist to support our growing ecological sciences practice. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting environmental analysis and performing field work related to wetland and stream delineation and habitat assessments.

The position awarded will be commensurate with the individual’s level of experience and they will work alongside other Ecologists, Environmental Scientists, and Engineers. HHNT is a well-respected environmental consulting firm located in the southeastern United States. As a small sized firm, HHNT can support all our staff professionally and personally, while keeping our focus on project successes and client satisfaction. HHNT is privately held by its Principals, who are specialists in their fields and work side-by-side with staff on high-profile and complex environmental projects.

Specifically, this position would support industrial projects within the southeastern United States. Primary duties include general biological surveys for plants and/or wildlife, electronic data entry, and regulatory review. The individual would either lead or assist in wetland delineations, prepare technical reports and regulatory applications, preparing maps utilizing GIS software, and other natural resource related field activities.

 

 

 

Responsibilities:

 

• Conduct field work to support wetland and stream delineations, habitat assessments, botanical surveys, and Threatened and Endangered species evaluations.

• Assist with preparation of federal and state environmental permitting projects.

• Preparation of reports, spreadsheets, and/or presentations to assist with environmental compliance.

• Preparation of GIS maps in support of HHNT projects.

 

• Assist Senior Environmental Consultant / Scientist or higher with environmental compliance for various environmentally sensitive facilities.

• Conduct permit application and file reviews at local regulatory offices.

• Locating, researching, and disseminating current information for environmental regulations for states and municipalities in the southeast.

• Assist with document review of various groundwater, surface water, methane, leachate, air, NPDES monitoring/ compliance data and statistical analysis reports.

• Assist and write Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans and Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure Plans for various sites in the southeast.

• Pursue and obtain your Professional Wetland Scientist, Geographic Information Systems Professional, and/or other Environmental Certifications.

• Must be comfortable working outdoors in all types of weather and being physically challenged.

• Will require travel on a regular basis to project sites which will require overnight stays.

• Minimum requirement of 2,080 hours worked for the company per year.

• Work out of other HHNT offices should be expected.

• Other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications:

Successful candidate will meet the following qualifications:

 

• Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Biology, Environmental Science, or similar program.

• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Applicant must have ability to create and maintain tracking spreadsheets.

• Continues learning process by attending in-house seminars and continuing education opportunities outside of the office.

• Valid driver’s license. Must be able to drive to project sites, including areas that require off-road access.

• Knowledge of ArcGIS preferred.

• Knowledge of native plant, soils, or wildlife species preferred.
