Job Description:

This is a highly responsible position providing coordination, management, supervision, customer service, delivery, and promotion of programs. This position is responsible for operations of the Georgia 4-H Environmental Education Program at Fortson 4-H Center in Hampton, GA. This includes hiring seasonal environmental education program instructional staff, supervision and training of staff, and daily operation of residential and day-use programs for school audiences in grades K-12. This employee will be under the leadership of the State Georgia 4-H Environmental Education Coordinator as well as the Fortson 4-H Center Director, who serves as the direct supervisor.

 

Additional responsibilities include working as support to the Center Director for overall management of Fortson 4-H Center. This includes office and reception work, working in the dining hall or kitchen as needed, conference group support, maintenance projects and housekeeping duties. This employee will also assist the Center Director with Georgia 4-H Summer Camping Program. This employee will work frequent nights, weekends, and have “on-call” responsibilities.

Qualifications:

Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

 

Skill in teaching a wide variety of subjects to youth 6-18 years old.

Broad knowledge of outdoor education and able to work in an outdoor setting.

Work with and care for reptiles and amphibians.

Communicate effectively with youth, adults, and young adults.

Work independently.

Effectively market and promote programs to school administration, boards of education, teachers, and Cooperative Extension personnel.

Proficiency in written and spoken communication.

Adequate computer skills to maintain email, use booking software, and printed communication with groups.

Ability to supervise others.

Trained in or willingness to achieve certification in high and low ropes facilitation, FA/CPR/AED, FA/CPR/AED Instructor, and Lifeguarding.

Lift 40 pounds.

Sitting for significant periods of time while working at a computer.

Standing and lifting cleaning supplies and teaching supplies.

Sitting while driving or attending meetings.

Be comfortable working in all types of weather conditions.

Be comfortable with heights and climbing a ladder.

Walk approximately 3 miles a day.

Driving as needed to perform job tasks.
