Deadline: Mon, 03/20/2023 - 12:00pm Employer: Lewis and Clark Community College Job Field: Forestry Water and Soil Resources Other Job Type: Full Time Location: Illinois Location Detail: East Alton Job Description: Scope of Position The Environmental Educator works under the direction of the Director of Environmental Education to plan, develop, implement, coordinate, and evaluate educational programs including NGRREC’s Mississippi River Xchange (MRX) program, NSF Critical Interface Network (CINet) and other NGRREC education and outreach programs. The goal of the MRX program is to increase youth understanding of important local and regional watershed issues and empower youth to make tangible, positive impacts on how their community interacts with and makes decisions about their watershed through exchanges with other students up and down the river and a combination of hands-on educational activities, educator professional development, and community engagement. The CINet project is an NSF-funded multidisciplinary biology and geoscience project examining the processes occurring in the “critical interface” between land, water, and air and organisms in intensively managed landscapes. The role of the MRX & CINet Educator will be to plan and implement environmental education, community outreach and translation of scientific concepts to a general audience in coordination with the science and outreach teams. Key Measurable Expectations The following KMEs are normal for this position. These are not all-inclusive; other duties may be required or assigned. Plan and deliver environmental education programs specific to the Mississippi River Xchange (MRX), Critical Interface Network (CINet) and Swarovski Waterschool programs to multiple audiences and stakeholders Coordinate the development and implementation of the MRX and CINet programs in coordination with supervisor and in collaboration with various organizations Work with supervisor to oversee budgets related to the MRX and CINet program Work with teachers, school administrators, community leaders, and industry professionals to develop and deliver program activities Travel to schools throughout the region and the Mississippi River Watershed to deliver activities, such as classroom lessons, public engagement activities, and educator workshops Facilitate the timely administration of program deliverables Research additional funding opportunities and contribute to grant proposals for the MRX and other education programs Distribute informational and promotional materials Upon approval from the Director of Operations and Strategic Initiatives, represent NGRREC at conferences and events related to NGRREC’s education programs Maintain organized materials and resources, both digital and physical Assist with maintenance of NGRREC education and outreach website pages Collaborate with environmental education team as needed to identify specific strategies to reach target groups such as underserved communities, at-risk populations, and the general public Work with NGRREC and partner researchers to further develop scientifically-based and relevant education programming Participate in other NGRREC education programs as needed Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: BA or BS in environmental education, life science, environmental science, or other related field required; Master’s degree in science or education preferred Understanding of scientific concepts related to water, watersheds, and ecology Interest in riverine ecosystems Experience in education, preferably with diverse communities and a broad range of ages Experience in community-based stewardship and outreach programs; Programs involving at-risk and underserved communities a plus Demonstrated experience collaborating with multiple partners to achieve a common goal Excellent writing, presentation, and public relations skills Strong organizational and time management skills Familiarity with national and state K-12 educational standards desired Experience securing external funds preferred Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, Google Forms, and Survey Monkey and willingness to learn new computer applications Ability to travel frequently to various greater St. Louis area locations and periodically throughout Illinois, the Midwest, and other regions for content delivery, conferences, and meetings Ability to work occasional Saturdays and evenings as needed GRANT FUNDED POSITION Driver’s License required Salary: $37,618 / Commensurate with experience How to Apply: Please visit: Lewis and Clark Community College Applicant Portal Site | Environmental Educator (lc.edu)
