Deadline: Mon, 12/11/2023 - 12:00pm Employer: Phinizy Center for Water Sciences Job Field: Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management Other Job Type: Full Time Location: Georgia Location Detail: Augusta, Georgia Job Description: Job Start Date: January 2024; preferably starting part-time as soon as possible until then Reports to: Assistant Education Director Position type: Full-time, Permanent Hours: 40 hours/week scheduled around when education programs occur, typically around 8am-4pm Monday-Friday Compensation: $17 per hour, with benefits The Environmental Educator job duties include the following: • Leads and assists with tasks associated with Phinizy Center’s Education programs, such as: o PreK – 12th grade school field trips o Summer programs o Homeschool programs • Assists with administration, curriculum improvements, and equipment preparation of homeschool program • Leads, motivates, and ensures the safety of students as they participate in age-appropriate activities • Leads and assists staff in set-up and clean-up of school field trips and other education programs • Leads or assists with off-site education/outreach events, as needed • Manages cleaning, maintenance, and proper use of education facilities and equipment • Communicates scheduling effectively with fellow educators • Updates outlook calendar as plans change • Acts as a park ambassador for visitors and the public • Follows all emergency procedures and enforces park rules • Other duties as needed Qualifications: DESIRABLE JOB PREREQUISITES: Education/Training/Experience: • Bachelor Degree in Science, such as Environmental Science, Environmental Education, or other related field required • Demonstrated knowledge of natural history • Experience working with children, especially in environmental education Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: • Ability to work well in a team setting and set personal high performance and quality standards, which enable the team to be successful • Takes initiative and has a high level of responsibility and accountability • Effectively communicates orally and in writing with co-workers, supervisors, the public, and all other customers, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities, and disabilities • Strong customer service ethic in delivery of services • Upbeat and engaging with strong public speaking skills • Ability to work with and manage students of all ages • Punctual with good time management skills • An appreciation for and understanding of natural habitats and systems; comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions • Physical ability to participate in activities, run, climb, lift, or support the weight of children • Knowledge of standard office practices and basic computer skills, and ability to apply such knowledge of interrelated processes, tasks, and operations • Ability to pass a background check and drug test • First aid and CPR/AED certified (preferred, but will provide if needed) Miscellaneous: This position is offered through a partnership with Phinizy Center and ESG Operations, an Inframark Company.
