Deadline: Mon, 04/11/2022 - 12:00pm Employer: Indiana Department of Environmental Management Job Field: Water and Soil Resources GIS/Technology Policy/Administrative Job Type: Full Time Location: Indiana Location Detail: Indianapolis Job Description: About the Job: As an Environmental Manager in the Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) program, you will be responsible for environmental analysis activities under direct or close supervision. You will lead the internal project teams and work with the watershed group for assigned TMDL reports, gather data and develop the TMDL document, and work with other branch staff to achieve monitoring and assessment goals. You will act as a liaison to the program's constituents and coordinate with interested federal, state, and local agencies. This position resides within the Watershed Planning and Restoration Section of the Office of Water Quality, Watershed Assessment and Planning Branch (WAPB), Indiana Department of Environmental Management. You will report to the Section Chief and be responsible for the development of total maximum daily loads (TMDL) for impaired waters and their associated documents for submission to U.S. EPA. A Day in the Life: The essential functions of this role are as follows: • Lead the internal project teams for assigned TMDLs. • Assist with other TMDLs within the program as the need arises. • Write the monitoring workplan and assist with data gathering for assigned TMDLs. • Develop assigned TMDL documents. • Coordinate with local watershed groups on watersheds of mutual TMDL/Nonpoint Source interest. • Assist with QA and reporting duties within the larger branch. • Develop web content to transmit information about our program to our customers. Qualifications: What You'll Need for Success: You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment: • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Chemistry, Biology, Geology, or a related field. • At least two (2) years of experience in an environmental or environmental public health field. • This position requires analytical skills, especially in terms of data compilation and analysis, modeling, and GIS abilities. • This position also requires people skills, having the ability to correspond with external stakeholders and present publicly, as well as internal coordination. • Broad knowledge of theories, environmental protection principles and practices, specialty area, and program area. • Thorough knowledge of chemistry, biology, hydrology, mathematics, engineering, and other environmental sciences as they relate to program area. • Thorough knowledge of soil, water, air sampling, laboratory analysis and interpretation as it relates to program area. • Ability to prepare documents for administrative and regulatory action. • Excellent research and writing skills for preparing accurate, precise, clear, and thorough reports. • Ability to effectively interact and orally communicate with parties with diverse levels of environmental expertise particularly for purposes of meetings, hearings, and negotiating critically sensitive issues. • Ability to interpret and apply legal terminology and practices, and the ability to apply these in a variety of conditions and situations Miscellaneous: Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports: This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.
