The intern will gain experience in sustainable natural resource investments through support of Domain’s timberland and environmental restoration platforms, with opportunities to offer similar support to Domain’s Capital team pending applicant qualification. In addition, the selected candidate will get exposure to the field of improved forest management and carbon offsets, sustainable forestry, greenhouse gas emission accounting, habitat protection and restoration, responsible investment practices, EU taxonomy, and ESG policy and reporting. The position will primarily report to forestry operations and natural resource portfolio management/analytics teams. Field travel of up to a week or more with regional forestry staff is also likely. Duties will include, but are not limited to: • Environmental impact accounting and reporting; • Auditing of sustainable forestry practices and policies; • Evaluation of climate-friendly alternative land use economics; • Interaction with Domain’s third party ESG partners and consultants; and • Development and improvement of internal environmental inventory and asset underwriting. Qualifications: Ideal candidates include graduate students and undergraduate students that have completed their junior year with a degree focus in forestry, environmental science, natural resources, or an associated field. A knowledge and desire to improve one’s understanding of environmental, social, and governance issues surrounding natural resource investing. Understanding of forest carbon cycles, greenhouse gas emissions, UN sustainable development goals, and general ESG principles of responsible investment. Completion of spatial analysis or a comparable natural resource related GIS course is required. Proficiency or aptitude to become more proficient in Excel is strongly preferred. The candidates should be detail oriented and results focused, with demonstrated quantitative and analytical skills, and be able to learn on the fly and work independently. Written and verbal communication skills, as well as organizational skills and competency with the Microsoft Office Suite are preferred. Miscellaneous: The intern will be required to report daily to Domain’s corporate headquarters in midtown Atlanta with the exception of when duties require field work.
