Job Description: The Opportunity: The Georgia Tree Council, Inc. is a statewide 501 (c)3 non-profit organization with the mission of sustaining Georgia’s green legacy by partnering with individuals, organizations, and communities in raising awareness toward improving and maintaining Georgia’s community forests. Established in 1988, the Georgia Tree Council fulfills its mission by bringing urban and community forestry education, resources, and leadership to communities across Georgia. Position Overview: The Executive Director is the chief executive officer of the Georgia Tree Council, and is responsible for the overall strategic, operational, and financial management of the organization. This role involves working closely with the Board of Directors, staff, and partners to advance the mission of sustaining Georgia’s green legacy. The Georgia Tree Council is Georgia’s urban forest council and works closely with the Georgia Forestry Commission. Position Details and Key Responsibilities: Organizational Leadership and Management: Provide visionary leadership and direction to the organization. Oversee the day-to-day operations, ensuring effective and efficient functioning. With the board, develop and implement strategic plans in alignment with the organization’s mission and goals. Manage and support the Outreach Coordinator, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment. Fundraising and Financial Management: Develop and execute fundraising strategies to secure financial support from diverse sources. Prepare and manage the annual budget, ensuring financial stability and accountability. Oversee donor relations and sponsorships. Program Development and Implementation: With the board, design, implement, and evaluate educational and resource programs that promote urban and community forestry. Organize educational workshops, conferences, and community outreach initiatives. Collaborate with local governments, businesses, and other organizations to enhance community forestry efforts. Advocacy and Public Relations: Serve as the primary spokesperson for the Georgia Tree Council. Advocate, through GTC programming, for policies and practices that support urban forestry and environmental sustainability. Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, community leaders, and the media. Board Relations: Work closely with the Board of Directors to ensure effective governance and strategic direction. Provide regular updates and reports to the Board on organizational activities and financial status. Organize quarterly board meetings, as well as board committee meetings Assist in the recruitment and orientation of new board members. Qualifications: Qualifications: Required: Bachelor’s degree in relevant field Significantly aligned, transferable professional and leadership experience (10+ years). Proven success in fundraising, grant writing, and financial management. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Team leadership and management experience. Partnership establishment and management experience. Passion for urban forestry, environmental conservation, and community engagement. Preferred: Master’s degree in relevant field Nonprofit leadership experience (senior leadership or Executive Director position) with proven results. Established relationships with relevant Georgia non-profits, agencies, and organizations.
