Job Description:

Seeking individual to assist our Land Management Program with treating exotic species on our 8,840 acre field station in south-central Florida, focusing on Old-World Climbing Fern. Duties may also include assisting with prescribed fires and other Land Management activities. Start date as early as February 16, 2023 but flexible. This is a 5-month full-time position or 12-month part-time position with possible extension based on job performance and available funding. Full time benefits include health insurance. Application deadline is January 5.

 

Qualifications:

The successful candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, and a desire to learn about ecological science, conservation, and land management. A bachelor’s degree in a related field is beneficial. Other required qualifications include:

• Experience with or ability to learn how to collect data using a handheld GPS

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel

• Ability to work extended periods independently and with initiative under minimal supervision

• Ability to perform physically strenuous activities (e.g., hiking while carrying field equipment, frequent bending and kneeling), often in hot, humid conditions, in thick vegetation

• Ability to safely operate 4WD vehicles in off-road conditions

• Comfortable using herbicide and herbicide sprayers

• Ability to perform assigned tasks with accuracy and attention to detail while following established protocols

• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license

• Applicants must have U.S. citizenship or current authorization to work in the U.S.

Miscellaneous:

Potential to extend position pending successful performance and availability of funding.

 

Salary:
$15-17/hour + housing
