Job Description:

The Extension Assistant Professor serves as a member of the Agricultural and Natural Resources (ANR) team and is responsible for providing statewide Extension educational programs to reach limited resource, underserved citizens and small farmers and developing an appropriate research program.

 

This position requires traveling and attending meeting with county and state faculty. The

candidate should be creative, willing to work with diverse people and must possess a

strong commitment to enhance the quality of the Extension and research program and

the College of Agriculture at Tennessee State University.

 

Specific responsibilities of this position are:

 

Conduct relevant applied research to sustain and enhance productivity of state's forests including economic viability of forest landowners, and conduct statewide Extension educational programs in forestry, agro-forestry and other related areas.

 

Securing external grant funds, publishing in scientific journals and writing relevant fact sheets and brochures for usage by the producers.

 

Develop working relations with appropriate state agencies and other public and private organizations to create additional learning opportunities.

 

Establish a strong collaborative relationship with UT Extension Forestry faculty, Tennessee Department of Forestry and other related organizations.

 

Teaching and advising graduate and under-graduate students as needed.

 

Qualifications:

Doctoral degree required in forestry with specialization in relevant area such as timber harvesting, forest land management, renewable energy or other relevant area.

 

Background in research and statistical analysis

 

Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Extension program planning, implementation and evaluation.

 

Working knowledge of programs particularly suited to small and limited resource farmers. Knowledge of other relevant USDA agency programs.

 

Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, facilitate, teach, and evaluate educational programs.

 

Ability to document and market program impacts.

 

Experience working with Extension programs, USDA agencies and/or related educational programming.

 

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with teams. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in written form using print media, radio and television.

 

Demonstrated ability to obtain and manage external funding to support Extension and research programs.

 

Proficiency with electronic technology or a willingness to learn/use distance educational technology.

 

Ability to provide leadership and demonstrate self-reliance in a collaborative environment.
