We are looking for a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) intern to work with our team for the Fall 2023. The primary purpose of this position is to support forestry operations and environmental management through GIS applications, remote sensing and solution implementation. It will also allow the intern to gain practical experience in the field of forest management. Duties will include GIS analysis related to harvest planning and operations, roadwork and forest infrastructure, and best management practice implementation. Primary duties include utilizing GIS applications and data to evaluate forest infrastructure conditions and maintenance requirements necessary for sustainable resource management and harvesting. One project is to integrate the harvest plan and overlay it with forest roads. Additionally, the intern will work closely with Land Information Systems and other forestry professionals to develop and implement end-user applications for planning and executing forest management activities and operations. Position location is at The Westervelt Company Corporate Headquarters in Tuscaloosa, AL. Qualifications: Current undergraduate or graduate student in GIS, remote sensing or related field. Must have competence working with the ESRI GIS software (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online). Ability to manage tasks and projects independently with defined outputs. Written and verbal communication skills to facilitate cooperation and solution development. Work schedule will be adjusted to project requirements and student’s academic commitments.
