Responsibilities may include but are not limited to, assisting with the planting and harvesting of crops, helping with construction projects, maintaining general landscaping, operating tractors and machinery, and providing exceptional customer service to guests of the farm. Since Washington Farms is in the agritourism industry, this position can be multifaceted. The farm is open to the public during our spring and fall seasons, so it is an extra bonus if you are willing and able to work on weekends when we are busiest. The agritourism side of the business requires you to engage with customers and part-time employees in addition to your standard farm work during the week. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications To be successful in this role you must be friendly, approachable, and possess excellent problem-solving skills. The requirements listed below are required to excel in this position: At least 1 year of farming, landscaping, or related experience. Must be able to work a minimum of 15 hours a week. Weekend and evening work may be required as needed depending on the season. Must be able to work individually as well as with a team. Must be able to follow instructions with minimal to no supervision. Must have experience using a variety of tools. Must have experience with general landscaping equipment. Must be willing and able to do outdoor, manual labor. Must be willing to be flexible and have a positive attitude. Knowledge of tractors, irrigation, and running farm equipment is a plus. Knowledge of planting, harvesting and related processes is a plus. Knowledge or experience with building/construction related projects is a plus. Work Environment & Physical Demands The work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those an intern may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. Frequently required to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Must be willing to work around a wide range of fertilizers, pesticides, fumes, etc. Must be willing to tolerate common outdoor allergens, manure, dust, odors, etc. Must be able to operate tractors and motor vehicles of various kinds.
