Deadline: Sat, 04/30/2022 - 12:00pm Employer: The Barn Group Land Trust Job Field: Other Job Type: Full Time Location: Georgia Location Detail: Brooks, GA Job Description: The Barn Group Land Trust (TBG, TheBarnGroup.org) intends to hire IMMEDIATELY a 3-4 field ecologist to support ecological studies at conservation properties including forests, wetlands, and agricultural land across the greater southeastern US. TBG’s main center is located in Brooks, Georgia. The field ecologist will perform targeted species surveys as well as general diversity inventories in the eastern US. They will spend a significant amount of time outdoors in rural or isolated environments. The successful candidate must have a thorough understanding of different plant species and will certainly be called upon to identify plant material. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: The Field Botanist will perform the following duties: · Identifying plants and birds; · Researching the habitat and conservation of plant species; · Installing and maintaining game cameras, sound recorders, and ultrasonic recorders to gather information remotely; · Navigating undeveloped terrain by foot and ATV using maps and electronic devices; · Driving a truck and trailer long distances; · Using ArcGIS; · Compiling and analyzing data and writing reports; and · Completing other duties as assigned. Trips normally last no more than two weeks. Expected travel will be 25% of time. Non-field work is typically performed from the employee’s home. Therefore, in addition to being able to perform the duties outlined above, the successful candidate will be flexible in the timing and methods of work and assignments, independent, a self-starter, and a problem solver. Qualifications: EDUCATION: The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in botany, ecology, forestry, wildlife or related field. A graduate degree is preferred. EXPERIENCE: The Field Ecologist is an entry level position. However, candidates will have demonstrated plant identification skills via graduate work, internships, seasonal work. REQUIRED SKILLS: The following skills will be used routinely and are essential in this position: grass, forb and tree identification, map production using ArcMap, report writing, ATV use, and truck/trailer driving. Salary: Salary ranges from $30-40,000 depending on experience. Health insurance, 401k match, and paid time off are also included.
