Job Description:

This position is responsible for the supervision and implementation of State Natural Area property management in up to four field working areas. The position ensures integration of State Natural Areas management with lands and facilities, parks, wildlife management, forestry, and other department programs through communication with regional integrated leadership teams and as a member of the Natural Heritage management team. It provides leadership and management to a team of field ecologists and state natural areas crews, mentors staff, and develops talent. This position serves as the technical expert on natural community management and restoration throughout either the southern 1/3 or northwestern 1/3 of the state.

 

The position fosters communication and promotes partnerships through leadership, innovation, and best management practices. The position also provides important input on bureau policy, hiring, strategic direction, and communications. Customer and partner groups will include the Division of Fish, Wildlife, and Parks, Division of Forestry, and other programs within DNR, citizens, citizen groups, tribal governments, and governmental, nongovernmental, and educational representatives. The position serves as one of the first line supervisors for the program and reports to the Field Operations Section Manager.

Qualifications:

A minimally qualified candidate must have the following education, training, or experience:

 

Knowledge of natural areas management, community restoration, prescribed fire techniques, and invasive species management

Knowledge of budget management procedures and practices, including allocation and monitoring of fiscal and other resources, to insure the operation of a major program

Demonstrated leadership experience – e.g., experience as a lead worker, supervisor, project manager, etc.

In addition to the above qualifications, well-qualified candidates will have a combination of the following:

 

Skill in program management methods for a decentralized organization, including policy development, interpretation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.

Knowledge of DNR specific policies and procedures pertinent to the Bureau of Natural Heritage.

Knowledge of state statutes, administrative rules, policies, and programs applicable to programs within the section.

Salary:
($81,120 – $85,280 annually)
