Job Description:

Role The Field Services Ecologist is an exempt employee in the Field Services department who supports ecological studies on conservation properties including forests, wetlands, and agricultural land across the greater southeastern US. This position is a will spend a significant amount of time outdoors in rural or isolated environments. This position will work cooperatively with the Senior Ecologist and Project Manager and is administratively responsible to the Director of Field Services.

Duties/Responsibilities:

· perform targeted species surveys by ear and sight as well as general diversity inventories including Identifying plants and birds, amphibians, and other wildlife species.

· Researching the habitat and conservation of plant and wildlife species.

· Taking high quality photographs while on site surveys.

· Write detailed reports and documentation by compiling and analyzing field data.

· Perform field work such as installing and maintaining game cameras, sound recorders, and ultrasonic recorders to gather information remotely, navigating undeveloped terrain by foot and ATV using maps and electronic devices.

· Produce maps using Arcmap and other digital platforms.

Other Duties:

· Attend and participate in training sessions/activities as directed.

· Participate in staff conferences for planning and evaluation of joint activities and share ideas among all co-workers and supervisors.

· Residence must be within 60 minutes’ drive time from The Barn Group headquarters located in Brooks Georgia.

· Conduct all duties in accordance with The Barn Group employee handbook and policies that ensures all educational programs, assistance, and materials to all people without regard to race, ethnicity, national origin, color, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability or veteran status.

· Performs all other related work as directed by supervisors.

Qualifications:

Knowledge, skills, and experience:

· Non-field work is typically performed from the employee’s home. Therefore, in addition to being able to perform the duties outlined above, the successful candidate will be flexible in the timing and methods of work and assignments, independent, a self-starter, and a problem solver.

· Possess strong written and verbal communication skills and be able to effectively communicate with all levels of personnel including executive management and customers.

· Knowledge of grass, forb, tree and wildlife identification.

· Ability to drive truck and trailer over long distances and operate ATV, side by side type vehicles in all types of terrain.

· Knowledge of current technology such as mapping applications (OnX, GAIA, etc), and Microsoft Office Suite programs.

· Knowledge of cameras and photography preferred.

· Ability to work independently and remotely with minimal supervision.

· Maintain consistent and effective work habits to make efficient use of time and resources.

· Demonstrated strong interpersonal, problem solving, and relationship building skills.

· Superior organizational and analytical skills with keen attention to detail and quality.

· Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a flexible, fast paced, and challenging environment.

· Ability to travel at any given time with as much advanced notice as possible.

Minimal Qualifications:

· A bachelor’s degree in botany, ecology, forestry, wildlife, or related field with a graduate degree is preferred.

· Ability to successfully complete screening requirements.

· A valid driver’s license with a safe driving record: No serious tickets or accidents in last 5 years or DWI/DUI in last 10 years. This position requires frequent travel with overnight and weekend work. Authorized travel expenses are reimbursed.

Miscellaneous:

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

· A large degree of physical activity is required for this position such as loading and unloading equipment such as trailers and heavy field equipment and installing fence posts for field equipment. Also, a large degree of walking is involved in carrying out the duties of this position.

· The position is subject to outside environmental conditions including heat, cold, rain, snow, and biting insects.

· Position includes proximity to moving mechanical parts and moving vehicles.

· Because of the size of some projects, field work can continue over several days. If you live far from project sites, over-night travel may be extensive when projects require field work. Travel costs are paid by The Barn Group
