Deadline: Mon, 04/03/2023 - 12:00pm Employer: University of Montana/ USGS Job Field: Wildlife Job Type: Seasonal, Temporary, Internship Location: Montana Location Detail: Glasgow Job Description: One field technician needed to assist on a University of Montana/USGS project monitoring bat communities and prey abundance as well as capturing and tagging beaver in the prairies of eastern MT (Zortman and Glasgow areas). Technician may also assist with computer-based analysis of bat calls. Work will consist of 8 days of fieldwork (followed by 5 days of break) from May 17th through mid-August. Successful candidate will be responsible for their own field gear (i.e. backpack, water bottle, compass) and food. Work gear, transportation, and housing will be provided. Qualifications: Necessary qualifications: • Ability to spend long days wading through mud or dense vegetation • Ability to carry heavy field equipment long distances • Flexibility in scheduling work due to weather conditions or animal activity • Good attention to detail in data recording and checking • Willingness to endure severe weather with a good attitude • Willingness to camp in remote areas for extended periods • Comfort with assisting minor surgical procedure to attach GPS trackers to live beaver tails Preferred qualifications: • Experience handling or tagging wild mammalian species • Experience using acoustic monitors or camera traps • Experience using GPS units to mark locations Salary: Pay commensurate with experience.
