Job Description:
  • Serve as a field technician in support of NGRREC’s various research and monitoring programs
  • Assist in the establishment of ecological research and monitoring plots in vegetation communities characteristic of large river floodplains, riparian zones, wetlands, and adjacent areas
  • Collect field data related to vegetation, animals, soils, and associated environmental characteristics
  • Maintain awareness of and compliance with NGRREC Standard Lab/Field Safety and Responsibilities
  • Operate field equipment as required
  • Assist with invasive species control and other activities at nature preserves
  • Enter data into computerized databases and/or spreadsheets
  • Overnight travel may be required
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Progress towards a degree in forestry, ecology, biology, environmental science, soil science, or a related field
  • Knowledge of basic plant identification and inventory techniques in natural vegetation communities
  • Knowledge of basic animal ecology
  • Physical ability to work outdoors in rough terrain (including areas where venomous snakes are present) and all-weather conditions
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Physical ability to lift 25 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Physical ability to drive a vehicle towing a trailer and operate small watercraft
Salary:
$15.00/hour
