McCall Region is hiring five (5) Fisheries Biological Aides (non-benefited) to work on the snorkel crew conducting fish and habitat surveys in streams.

General Information:

Employee will be a member of a five-person crew plus a crew leader to conduct fish and habitat surveys in streams by snorkeling. Crew will also help conduct creel surveys during June and possibly early to late July for two local Chinook fisheries. Crew will camp in remote locations during field work. Meals and camping equipment provided when on duty away from McCall. Position will be based out of McCall, WHERE SHARED CAMPING ACCOMMODATIONS AT PONDEROSA STATE PARK WILL BE AVAILABLE WHEN OFF DUTY OR WORKING LOCALLY.

Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities include:

- Work as a member of a five-person crew led by a crew leader

- Conduct fish and habitat surveys in front-country and back-country streams

- Conduct angler surveys (creel surveys) for two local Chinook fisheries

- Works eight 10-hour days followed by six days off duty, with some variability in that schedule

- Camp in remote locations during field work (Most specialized equipment and camping gear can be provided by employer but personal sleeping bag and pad is recommended)

Other duties include:

- Assisting with related fisheries research and management activities (e.g., gill netting, electrofishing, conducting standard steam and lake surveys)

Qualifications:

Qualifications/Skills Needed: 1 year college in fisheries, biology, or related field; or equivalent in training and experience. Employee must have the ability to work in adverse weather, handle live and dead fish, and carry a 40 lb. pack for several miles, with or without reasonable accommodations. Applicants must be 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license.
