Job Description:

Under limited supervision, directs the development, operation and maintenance of the life support systems and animal care at the Go Fish Education Center. The incumbent will be responsible for the operation and monitoring of over 170,000 gallons of aquarium living exhibits and filtration systems. This will include animal husbandry, aquarium cleaning and maintenance, water quality analysis, life support systems, preventative

tank maintenance and quarantine. Oversee the procurement and transportation of all exhibit specimens. The incumbent will also use these skills to ensure the onsite fish hatchery is meeting production expectations. Oversee the procurement of all materials and supplies for live exhibits operations, including feeding, food preparation, water quality testing and monitoring, dive operations, life support systems operations, and

exhibit maintenance. Supervises and administers purchasing, budgeting, accounting, inventory control, and report preparations associated with state and federally funded projects to ensure compliance with laws, rules and contractual agreements. Strong interpersonal and staff management skills are required. The ability to work independently, as a member of a facility management team, or as a team leader is required. The incumbent will provide support for public education programs within the education center. Work will include some weekend and holiday hours.

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Biology or a related field from an accredited college or university.

AND

One year of related experience.

OR

Bachelor's degree in Biology or a related field from an accredited college or university

AND

Two years of related experience.

OR

One year of experience required at the lower level Fisheries Biologist 2 (NRP071) or position equivalent.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference may be given to applicants with:

• Experience Operating and Maintaining Aquarium Exhibit Life Support Systems

• Experience Providing Aquatic Resource Education to the General Public

• Experience with the Hatchery Production of Sport Fish

• DNR/WRD Employment Experience
